Found in 10 to 60 feet.
This, and several closely related and almost inditinguishable species, is commonly found in shallow water growing
on rocks, dock pilings, and marine grasses. many of these hydroids cause painful stings if toxin is injected by the nematocysts.
The pain may last for several days and requires treatment by a physician. The colonies are often mistaken for
marine plants.
