Mt Pleasant Guesthouse
Turks & Caicos

    A nature lover's delight.

We're a small guest house on a small island--and guests love it!

They keep telling us they hope we'll always stay this size."

Located in the heart of Salt Cay and a few steps from the ocean and the beach. This charming small hotel has four bedrooms in a historic, yet recently renovated guesthouse and four more bedrooms in an annex next door. Owner/host Bryan Sheedy runs Mount Pleasant as his personal house party, letting all his guests share in the charm of this tiny Cay. The atmosphere is very down to earth, a perfect getaway for relaxing with the friendliness of a community that still enjoys the traditions of an unhurried lifestyle.

Many guests are return visitors to this tiny island haven, a part of the Turks and Caicos Islands chain. The little known archipelago lies just to the South of the Bahamas and an hour’s flight from Miami. Salt Cay is a mere 2 ½ square miles. The island is a proposed UNESCO World Heritage site, as it has changed little since the 1900’s when the salt industry last flourished. Salt flats and sheds lay unused since the 1960’s when the entire salt industry relied heavily on Salt Cay for the world's salt supplies.

Guests come for the fantastic scuba diving and especially to see the Humpback whales from above or below the water when these huge mammals migrate to their winter breeding grounds on the nearby Mouchoir Banks. Others come to enjoy an island where you drive in a golf cart, walk on beaches where your footprints are the only ones in the sand and the "bright lights" are the stars. The water is clear, warm, and calm and a color that you must see to believe. Visiting Salt Cay means stepping into a different time, a time to take it easy.....island style.

Here you will feel welcome with the easy–going staff in the family-style hotel. There is a wonderful cook who prepares tasty meals each day and will personalize your meals to your taste as you require. Fresh fish, conch, and lobster are daily fare and the whelk soup is an island favorite. The food is simple but good. Meals are served in a covered, outdoor dining area, cooled by the ocean breeze. You can also enjoy cocktails and refreshments at the adjoining bar.

Salt Cay and the Mount Pleasant Guest House offer visitors a truly unique vacation experience. Many guests, after travelling to many parts of the world, say they've never quite experienced the serenity of this little island. Columbus supposedly made his first landing in the "New World" at the nearby island of Grand Turk, yet Salt Cay feels still undiscovered.
